Despina G.
Harvard
Hi Everyone! My name is Despina Giannakopoulos and I am a rising sophomore and returning starting defender on the Harvard University women's lacrosse team. I am from Long Island, New York and graduated from Manhasset High School as a two-time Academic All-American, co-captain, State Champion and three time County Champion.
I also played four years of field hockey and contributed to Long Island and County Championships as a team captain and All-State recipient during my senior year.
I look forward to mentoring aspiring collegiate student-athletes. Throughout high school and college, I have been able to successfully balance a rigorous academic schedule, with the demands of lacrosse, all while maintaining a healthy social life. I look forward to sharing my experiences and passing along helpful advice to student-athletes focused on pursuing their dreams.
As a mentor, I look forward to providing helpful advice and perspective in the following areas:
college recruiting advice; introduction to the process, how to prepare and persevere throughout
time management; how to balance academics, athletics, family and social priorities
the importance of emotional health and self-worth
mental focus and toughness; embracing competition, handling pressure in a healthy way
dealing with adversity, acknowledging your weaknesses and turning challenges into confidence-building experiences
healthy approach to nutrition, and it's benefits
attributes of a supportive teammate and leader, on and off the field
academic, extracurricular and career plans
I understand completely how time consuming, competitive, and unnerving the recruiting process can be. I am here to listen, and to share my advice and experiences to help you realize your full potential to succeed. I look forward to being available, to answering questions and to helping you to achieve all of your academic and athletic goals!
